Camping Trip

Last Sunday, Trace, I and the kiddos packed up and drove to Ackley, IA to meet some good friends for a short...very short...camping trip.  1 night to be exact, but it was actually the perfect amount of time!

Crazy Acres was the name of the place...and it wasn't all it was cracked up to be, but for 1 night, the kids had a blast and the adults had an opportunity to catch up with each other.  We had our own cabin, enjoyed some fishing, boating, and swimming, saw a very small petting zoo, ate, and roasted marshmallows!

Cory & Stacie are friends of ours from Emmetsburg so we're talkin friends from when we were newly married, 10 years ago.  I bowled league with Stacie, we were on different teams, but same establishment.  She was pregnant and looking for daycare for the baby.  Just so happens, I was trying to open an in-home daycare and long story short, their daughter, Sophia, was my 1st child and kicked off the opening of my daycare!  She was only 3 months old when she started and I simply adored her.  She was the best baby, so very sweet, and my heart melted for her, as did Trace's.  Let's just say, she was the spoiled one who got "special" attention!  I wish I had a picture of her on my computer when she was a baby so I could show a "then" and "now", but I don't.

 My Sophia, 10 years later!

I love ya, Sophie!!

Anyway, we all became very close and have stayed in touch over the years.  We haven't seen them for 4 years, but this past weekend was just like it always was with them.  We had a great time!

They were actually scheduled to stay 3 nights and ended up leaving Monday with us, changing their plans, and bunkin up in Adel at our house for a night before heading back home Tuesday.  It was perfect!  The kids all bonded and had great fun together too.  Trevor was heart broken when he had to say "good bye" to his new friends.  Aubri, Trevor, the twins, Carson & Connor, and Sophia became close friends in a very short time.

We're hoping not to let so much time pass by before getting together again.

Waiting to take possession of our cabin!

Cabin 1 was ours for a night.
Tossing rocks into the water!
The Petting Zoo!  Yes, there were a few animals to gaze upon.  Miniature horses & billy goats.
Such a cheezy "Cheese"
Daddy & Aubri having a moment!
Wishing she could plunge in!
Our cabin from across the way.

The animals loved to be fed!  And...Trevor enjoyed feeding them.
Snack Time!!
This is where the kids spent their time...by this dock...in the water, in the sand, and around in the grass!
FISHING
Trace teaching Trevor how to fish!
Trevor was very attentive & willing to learn the sport.
He was a natural.

Aubri's turn...she wasn't as attentive; she'd rather do it all herself!

She got a fish though!  Daddy cast it...
...Mommy hooked and reeled it in!
"I can do it all by myself"

Check out the concentration in that face...Reeling it in!
Sophia caught the 2nd fish of the day.  Aubri caught the 1st.  Trevor caught the 3rd.
These 3 kids continued to catch fish and were the only 3 that did!!
 Trevor's 2nd

Bringing it out of the water.
Way to go, Trevor...thumbs up buddy!

Fjetland's cabin had a loft upstairs, which the kids enjoyed playing in!

 Tent Fun
 Camping Family Pic
 Time for a fire!

BOATING
 Ready for a boat ride...
 ...in the paddle boat!

 Aubri & Sophie
This was definitely Bull Frog Cove...noisey little suckers; but adorable!
Meet Billy...or whatever you'd like to call it!

SWIMMING
Aubri didn't think twice about jumping off the dock into the water!  She loved it.

 Having a blast!
 The walk to supper...
 Welcome to Joe's Crab Shack

The kid's each got a Shark Bite!
These were too hilarious NOT to post on here!  Cory, you're so sweet.

 Group shot!
 Scary shark
 These two became fast friends!
They're all looking forward to the next visit already.
