We loved our house when we looked at it and bought it and moved into it. There was just one thing that we really wanted to do right away to it. That was putting a door in the eat-in kitchen where currently the large window was located. We desperately wanted access to the backyard without having to go through the garage and around or out the front door.
Other than that, immediately there wasn't anything urgent that needed to be taken care of. We did know, however, that the backyard would need some attention in the future if we didn't want to have a jungle back there, but rather, a nice area for the kids to play as well as a safe place for Ellie to hang out where she wouldn't get lost or hurt in the mess.
Summer 2013 was finally the time this work was going to start! Trace had friends lined up to come help, bring equipment, and dig into a project that turned out to be more than we bargained for!

Our Yard BEFORE

It looked like a jungle. Full of weeds, sucker trees, creeping charlie, and junk. It was in dire need of help. It was a complete mess. But, every time we looked at it we were quickly overwhelmed by where to even start. Some day...some day...some day. That was our motto.
Oh, plus...there was a chain link fence, but it didn't enclose the yard. There were still open spaces so we couldn't even safely let Ellie outside alone in the back, let alone the kids.

The Project Begins!
Tom came from Linn Grove to help and Mike brought his Bobcat.

Our backyard was free of an enormous amount of trees, but was all mud now.
Overwhelming!
This turned out to be a much bigger project than we ever dreamed off so we ended up hiring a tree company to clear the backyard and then a dirt company to level, grade, and fluff the ground to prepare it for grass seed.
The fence is up and stained!
Now ready to assemble the Play Set!!

Trying to grow grass has been difficult with the drought we had this summer, but we re-planted seed and it's starting to come up better now. I'll end with just a few more pictures of what the backyard looks like now. We still have more to do, but we accomplished A LOT this year and are extremely happy with the progress we have made. It's been a ton of work, but well worth it!!
Next year we'll set up the trampoline in this area.
